We would like to give a big warm welcome to one of Bilker Allee’s newest shops, No Sugar Land. Unlike the numerous shops in Bilk, and boutiques, bakeries, and kiosks lining the Bilker Allee, No Sugar Land is a new shop filled with unique sugar-free drinks (sweetened and unsweetened).

No Sugar Land is located at Bilker Allee 34-36 in Düsseldorf (between Penny and ÄN BÁNH MÌ/conveniently only a few steps away from my apartment door). They offer a wide array of drinks that contain 0g sugar, 0g fructose, 0g carbohydrates, and 0g aspartame. They’ve also got quite an awesome selection in stores and sell some other neat products as well!

This year the Sugar-Free Diet is no longer just a diet. The Sugar-Free Diet has been more of a lifestyle choice where many people are choosing to cut out sugar completely in their day-to-day lives. I like to believe I live a pretty healthy lifestyle, but there is no denying that my sugar cravings for chocolate bars, cakes, and sweetened teas pop up on a daily basis. So, I figured, why not give it a try?

It’s a new shop to celebrate, we’re only a few months away from the new year and how hard can a sugar-free diet really be?

So I’ve decided in celebration of the opening of No Sugar Land and a fresh start to 2018, my partner and I will be going sugar-free for the month of November. If you’d like to receive our weekly updates, visit No Sugar Land on Facebook and Instagram to see how our progress is going.

Why go sugar-free?

According to the world wide web, there are actually many benefits to reducing your sugar intake. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you need to cut sugar completely out of your diet, but try to limit your intake by sticking to natural sugars while cutting out the obvious foods like chocolate bars, ice cream, and chips.

Reducing your sugar intake can:

  • Support weight loss
  • Prevent obesity
  • Reduce mood swings
  • Provide you more energy
  • Reduce inflammatory digestive conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

What foods can you eat then?

After a bit of asking around, it turns out that everyone has their own definition of what a sugar-free diet actually means. Some say you can eat potatoes but only in moderation, other people cut it out altogether, some people say you can eat eggs, other people cut out the yolk, some people say you can eat whole wheat grains, others avoid gluten altogether. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to draw the line for yourself.

However, I was able to find a couple of handy guides that I’ll be following during my No Sugar month of November. Try checking out Further Food and Spark People for more tips.
